The Dinner List & Special Selection Pinot Noir

Welcome, welcome, welcome! We have reached the final three pairings of 2018. Today I've featured not only a great book, but a great program that I joined this year: Book of the Month Club.

The Pairing

The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle and Jean-Claude Debeaune Special Selection Pinot Noir

Book of the Month Club features five books per month, from which you can select one or more to be shipped to your doorstep. They highlight new authors, bestsellers, fiction and non-fiction, fan favorites, you name it. Some of my favorite reads from this year have been my BotM books, including The Dinner List. This book made me cry and think and sigh. But mostly cry. I haven't shed as many book tears since I read The Light Between Oceans

The basic premise is that the main character shows up to dinner only to discover the attendees are the same people she once listed as her dream dinner guests. Throughout the evening, they all dig in to meals and to the past to see why they have been called to the table. Each chapter brings a new revelation, which is one of my very favorite styles of storytelling.

There are three special selections on display today:
1) This was my special selection from BotM's special selections for the month of August.
2) The focal point of this novel is the main character's special selection of dinner guests.
3) This Special Selection Pinot Noir Table Red from Jean-Claude Debeaune.

It doesn't hurt that throughout the novel the guests are partaking in bottle after bottle of red wine, making it feel like you are part of the conversation when sipping this light, slightly spiced, elegant Pinot.

The way we find new books and new wines is important. It is rare that I wander around a bookstore with nothing in mind- I always entered with a suggestion, or an idea. The same is true for my wine selection. Book of the Month Club has allowed me to discover new favorites that I might have passed by if left to my own devices. This time of year reminds me that sharing the things we enjoy is a gift, and one that I have been able to immerse myself in for almost 365 days.

The final PageFiftyNine pairings for this year will be unveiled on Christmas Day and December 29th (the last Saturday of 2018). I enter into the final days of this project with a mixture of relief and sadness... but I also enter it with a long to-be-read pile and a few bottles of good wine, so I think it'll all be ok in the end.
